Not Saying Goodbye at Gate 21

£8.99

In Not Saying Goodbye at Gate 21 the departure gate has a magical threshold, the past on one side and the future on the other.

Kathleen Jones shows us departures and attachments, journeys and encounters; some come from an attachment to place, the mountains and lakes of Cumbria, others from the longing to be rooted in one place, and feelings that tussle with a passion for travel, new experiences and a fascination with the lives of people met.  And there are also different kinds of departure, more personal; the breakdown of relationships, the deaths of close relatives.

Kathleen Jones is a biographer and poet. Her published work includes A Glorious Fame (Bloomsbury), Learning not to be First - Christina Rossetti (OUP), A Passionate Sisterhood (Virago), Catherine Cookson (Time Warner), Margaret Forster: An Introduction (Northern Lights) and Katherine Mansfield: The Story-Teller, (Penguin/Edinburgh University Press), as well as a poetry pamphlet Unwritten Lives (Redbeck Press). Kathleen lived for ten years in the Middle East working in broad-casting, and now lives in the Lake District, where she teaches creative writing for the Open University and is Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Lancaster University

Two new Templar Cumbrian poets and winners of the inaugural Straid Collection Awards, Kathleen Jones and Martin Malone, launched their first collections at a special event in Grasmere at the Jerwood Centre, Wordsworth Trust on Saturday 26th November 2011.
