The Naming of Girls explores the names – Christian, catcalled or historic – given to women. It begins the roll call with wartime nicknames and reaches back to the big names of ancient myth. This collection treats each poem as an occasion and with each outing, the poems arrest with their invention, scope and risk.
Sarah Roby won the iOTA Shot Award for poetry pamphlets with This Afternoon and I. Her work has featured regularly in The Poetry Review and national competitions, including the Keats-Shelley Prize and Mslexia Poetry Competition. She is a recipient of a writer’s award from Arts Council England.
The Naming of Girls was launched at the first of the 2015 autumn series of Templar Poetry Live at Keats House on Tuesday 29th September 2015.
