Stockholm by Patrick Toland is the second winner of the Templar Portfolio Awards and launched at the Derwent Poetry Festival on Saturday 1st November.
Patrick Toland is a graduate of the Masters of Creative Writing in Oxford University. He has been published widely in magazines in Ireland, the UK and US. He was selected as an emerging writer by Windows Publications in 2010 and for the 2012 Poetry Ireland Introductions Series and is winner of the Edward Stanley Prize. In 2013 he was nominated as an emerging writer in the Hennessy XO Literary Awards.
Patrick Toland’s poems stem from a curiosity and sense of wonder about the workings of family and aging, love and loss, writing itself and the durability of the emotions those words attempt to capture.
The voices in his poems strive to celebrate the moments, however fleeting they may be, when time, feeling and understanding conspire and connect us to others or a better sense of who we truly are or who we truly wish to be.
