4th - 6th NOVEMBER 2016 | MASSON MILLS | MATLOCK BATH | DE4 3PY
The Eleventh Derwent Poetry Festival - our unique annual publishing event - is open for listeners and readers at Masson Mills, Matlock Bath over the first weekend in November.
This year our main guest poet is Jean Bleakney from Belfast launching her Selected Poems on Saturday evening. Saturday also features the launch of seven of our latest pamphlets and five collections including two Straid Collection Award winners - Victor Tapner with Waiting to Tango and Ruth Sharman with Scarlet Tiger. Mark Fiddes follows his iOTA Shot pamphlet with the launch of his first collection, The Rainbow Factory and Jane Weir launches her latest collection, Anna Magnani, eat with me.
The annual Templar Anthology, DE4 | A1, the first in our second decade is the first in our new annual anthology series featuring ten poets each year. The dedicated anthology launch is our popular lunchtime reading on Saturday.
On Friday evening two innovative pamphlets are aired at the opening reception. Battling Against the Odds by Oliver Comins brings wit, wisdom and human frailties to light in a witty and occasionally outrageous collection of poetry about golf.
The Mask of Anarchy by Percy Bysshe Shelley is our first classic pamphlet and includes a selection of political poems by Templar poets. The pamphlet will be read by Templar poets and Shelley's political response to the Peterloo Massacre by Jane Weir, Ellen Cranitch and Jean Bleakney.
The Festival workshop this year is led by Ian Harker and focuses on political poetry.
